Monomania !

Mono ou Stéréo ? Chez les Beatlesmaniaques, ça fait longtemps que le débat fait rage... Le Zornophage, quand à lui, amateur mais pas trop, a choisi le format original et vous explique pourquoi. Enjoie !


The Beatles "The Beatles in Mono" (2009)
ou "The Real Fab Four"

Depuis 1987 et l'apparition originelle du catalogue des Fab Four en format CD, 22 ans pendant laquelle la concurrence d'époque et sa descendance naturelle ont connu moult générations de rééditions remasterisées s'approchant, chacune, un peu plus de la vérité sonore des bandes, les Beatles restaient coincés avec de premières générations franchement de moins en moins recommandables. Jusqu'à la sortie des deux coffrets (et des albums individuellement également aussi, évidemment) mono et stéréo le 9 septembre 2009, mieux vaut tard que jamais !
La musique ? On ne la vante plus. D'innocents débuts pop qui feront date aux développements du groupe qui apporta l'expérimentation dans le monde du rock, on sait l'importance de la formation et l'excellence de sa production. Evidemment, on notera que l'abandon de la scène, impossible, avec toutes ces minettes hystériques et des équipements qui ne suivent pas l'immense popularité d'un groupe pourtant forgé à la scène, permit à ces quatre garçons dans le vent et à leur irremplaçable producteur, qui vient de nous quitter d'ailleurs (avec George Martin, c'est une authentique légende qui disparaît), de gagner une liberté créatrice sans précédent et d'utiliser, pour la première fois, le studio comme un instrument à part entière. Le résultat est, comme chacun sait, éblouissant, et présentement incomplet puisqu'après le foutraque Double Blanc, les cinq abandonneront le mono au profit du tout stéréo ce qui nous prive d'Abbey Road, de Let It Be et de quelques faces B... Et justement, puisqu'on en vient à la distinction qui fait tout l'intérêt du présent coffret, on notera que les Beatles et leur expert metteur en son soignaient particulièrement leurs mono mixes à une époque où c'était la norme simplement parce que le "cœur de cible" de la musique populaire, une jeunesse au nouveau pouvoir d'achat ne lui permettant cependant pas l'acquisition d'un matériel audiophile, donnait plus dans le mange-disque que dans la hifi voire "consommait" sa musique via de très sommaires transistors. Bref, même sur une bonne chaîne moderne, en comparant l'un et l'autre (le mono au stéréo, vous suivez ?) on note une chaleur et une brillance accrue sur le premier des deux, voire de petits détails qui remonteront à l'oreille du pointilleux auditeur qui n'étaient pas audibles sur la précédente génération des CD et ne l'est pas plus sur une stéréo qui n'est définitivement pas le choix à adopter. D'autant qu'il a une bonne gueule ce coffret, avec ses jolies répliques de 33T à l'échelle, son bon gros livret papier glacé bourré de clichés plus ou moins connus et, évidemment, une compilation des inédits qui permettra de se souvenir que les Beatles chantèrent dans la langue de Goethe... De manière plutôt très convaincante d'ailleurs.
Vous l'aurez compris, The Beatles in Mono est une pleine et entière réussite et un investissement immanquables pour tous les amateurs de grande pop music en général et beatlemaniaques en particulier.

PS : pas d'extrait cette fois, les Beatles n'en ont pas besoin.

À force d'empiler les originaux en stéréo, en mono, les CD, les CD avec bonus, les B-faces, les inédits, les rareties, les bootlegs, les remasters, les outtakes, les éditions japonaises, les divers hommages, les best-of, les compiles, les remix par David Guetta… les Beatles finissent par prendre beaucoup de place sur les étagères !
    Ouaih, mais ils le valent bien !!!

  5. Quelle belle année que cette année là, je parle de 2009, comme une redécouverte avec un son merveilleux.
    Par contre, je suis parti direct sur le coffret noir, j'ai pété mon budget mensuel sur la version stéréo.

    Y'a la boite USA qu'est vachement pas mal aussi, des tracklisting un poil différent, "Hard days night" et "Help" notamment.

    Moi rien que les pochettes, ça me fait du bien ;D

    1. Perso, j'avais fait le choix du mono, j'ai complété avec les stéréos de Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Let It Be et des Past Masters... J'avoue avoir regardé avec envie la box US... A l'occasion, sans doute.
      Bref, comme toi, j'aime ces quatre (cinq) là. ^_^

    2. La box USA est vendu séparément chez Gibert, du coup j'ai pécho Hard day.. Help, et la compile Hey Jude 69, rien que pour la pochette, the last photo of the four ;D.. les 2 BO sont vraiment assez différente.

    5. Celui des années MGM ? Il est à 120 chez Amazon, encore un peu cher et pas les vrais débuts de Roy...

    Je ne les avais qu'en qualité moyenne (192kbps) donc là je fonce, merci !
    J'ai une question: alors que tous les disques prennent 30Mb, ce qui me semble très peu, pourquoi le White prend quasi le triple pour chacun des deux disques ?? Chaque vinyl ne dépassait quand même pas 45min. C'est bien vous qui avez rippé vous-même les CD en 320kbps ? Désolé si je vous agace mais je suis un maniaque de la qualité audio :-|

    2. C'est la mono box cd et c'est bien un rip perso.
      La différence entre le Double Blanc et les autres est l'encodage, tout est en VBR HQ sauf lui qui est en 320kbps constant, ce qui explique la différence de taille.

  7. Mono Stéréo... Je te lisais expliquer les écoutes sur Radio ou mangeur de disque. Surpris d'apprendre que les Beatles s'étaient assuré une qualité pour ce matériel. A contrario, ces faux effets stéréo qui séparait la musique de la voix... C'est moi et mon lecteur K7 qui ne lisait qu'une voie sur la bande, je te dis pas le double "rouge" des Beatles, étrange le jour où j'ai enetendu les chansons en "entiers" .. Peut-être pour ce souvenir pénible que je n'ai pas de Beatles en Vinyle. Va savoir

    1. J'avais connu ça dans la voiture d'un pote où un seul côté fonctionnait... Je te raconte pas les vieux mixes des Stones où tout est d'un côté ou de l'autre, ça donnait des versions cocasses... ^_^
